Herobrine is the subject of a Minecraft community-made "creepy-pasta" (creepy story). He is one of the major community icons of Minecraft. Herobrine has not actually been present in any version of Minecraft.

Herobrine was spying near Steve. When Steve went into the portal, he also jumped in. Soon the portal's destination was redirected to the villainous hideout where the Skull Team makes its main base, and landed there. Herobrine earned the respect of the Skull Team because his powers and almost became a member, but declined and left to go on a journey through the new world. Herobrine once passed out in the Wicked Woods and was visited by Fuse in his mind. Fuse said to Herobrine, "One who is nothing does not exist." After waking, he heard that quote every three minutes. After finding a clue in the Wicked Woods' Mosquito Shrine to a mysterious "Three" that could explain the meaning of Fuse's incessant whisperingss and drive them out of his thoughts, he decides to follow the clue to Gravity Falls in order to find out what it means, find the "Three," and save his sanity.
